Job Summary:

The Department of Biomedical Informatics seeks new faculty members who will strengthen our presence in clinical informatics and informatics education. In this search, we seek to hire researchers whose labs currently or will develop and apply computational approaches to achieve measurable benefits to health care. We are particularly interested in faculty who have deep methodological expertise in advanced analytical approaches, including machine learning and artificial intelligence, and apply that expertise to address pressing challenges in research and care. Faculty with experience developing and leading high-quality educational programs designed for providers (e.g. clinical informatics fellowship), medical students, and graduate students in advanced data science techniques are also of particular interest. Other areas of interest include innovative clinical decision support, translation of informatics methods to clinical care, software engineering in the context of clinical care, dynamic medical imaging, and mobile and digital health. The Department's focus includes developing novel models, systems, and tools to improve patient outcomes, effectively translating them into clinical workflows on health information technology platforms, and rigorously evaluating them. In addition to collaborating with informaticists, computer scientists, physicists, systems biologists, data scientists, and physicians in the Department, we anticipate that the faculty member will develop new collaborations with other departments, health system personnel, and multidisciplinary research groups on the Anschutz Medical Campus.

Key Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

Develop and lead an independent research program.

Develop novel methods or strategies to apply computation and technology to medicine.

Develop, apply, translate into practice, and evaluate computational systems (e.g., mobile health, devices, electronic health record tools) to improve healthcare.

Individually and in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, obtain external funding and publish impactful manuscripts.

Mentor pre- and post-doctoral non-clinical and clinical trainees.

Work Location:

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of three or more days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

The Department of Biomedical Informatics is co-located on the Anschutz Medical Campus with the UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital, Children's Hospital Colorado, and the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center. DBMI enjoys collaborations with numerous centers and units on campus. For example, the CU Anschutz Center for Combat Medicine and Battlefield (COMBAT) Research has been created to solve the U.S. military's toughest medical challenges by leading high-impact research, education, and innovation, turning military medical research gains into better health care for all. The Anschutz Campus is home to Colorado's only NIH-supported Comprehensive Cancer Center (the University of Colorado Cancer Center) and Clinical and Translational Science Award hub (the Colorado Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute). The Colorado Center for Personalized Medicine houses the region's largest biobank, which is one of the nation's largest academic biobanks. Research into women's health and sex differences is a key theme in the department that enjoys strong connections with the Ludeman Family Center for Women's Health Research. The campus has invested significantly in an enterprise health data warehouse collecting electronic health record data from 15 hospitals and dozens of clinics for research. This warehouse integrates electronic health record data for >2.5M active patients, more than 800 clinics, and state and national public health databases for research.

Associate Professor:

Preferred Qualifications (All Ranks):

Post-doctoral experience applying technical expertise (e.g., computer science, engineering, physics, applied mathematics, statistics) to health-related applications or in clinical informatics
Experience collaborating with researchers in multiple different domains and healthcare providers
Accomplishments and publications in research areas spanning the boundary between the biomedical sciences and the computational sciences.
Strong computational skills as evidenced by completed projects and developed software, tools, and systems

Associate Professor: Starting at $173,000

Professor: Starting at $213,750

Clinically Active MD/DO:

Assistant Professor: Starting at $170,000

Associate Professor: Starting at $205,000

Professor: Starting at $275,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
