ESE Tenured or Tenure-track Faculty Positions, 2024 - 2025

Location: Philadelphia, PA
Open Date: Sep 04, 2024
Deadline:

The School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Pennsylvania is growing its faculty thanks to a major $750M investment in science, engineering and medicine. As part of this initiative, the Department of Electrical and Systems Engineering is soliciting applications for multiple tenured or tenure-track positions at all levels. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related area.

The department seeks individuals with exceptional promise for, or proven record of, research achievement, who will take a position of international leadership in defining their field of study and who will excel in undergraduate and graduate education. Leadership in cross-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary collaborations is of particular interest. We are seeking exceptional candidates in all areas of electrical and systems engineering. Additionally, we have a special focus on individuals whose expertise aligns with the School's Strategic Plan on Engineering Excellence, in the following signature initiatives:

  1. Quantum devices and engineering (QUIEST)
  2. Energy and sustainability (Vagelos)
  3. Center for Precision Engineering for Health (CPE4H)
  4. Information Decision Systems (IDS), including machine learning and data science

Information on each search area is as follows:

Quantum: We seek exceptional candidates in both experimental and theoretical quantum information science, with emphasis on areas of interest to electrical and systems engineering. The ideal candidate will be able to work collaboratively both within ESE and across the School of Engineering and Applied Science. Particular areas of interest include, but are not limited to: realization of novel quantum devices and architectures; quantum sensors and their applications; quantum communication links and networks.

CPE4H: We seek exceptional candidates working in ESE-relevant research areas that have a clear and direct path to clinical impact. Particular fields of interest include, but are not limited to, microsystems for medicine, circuit design for implantables, bioelectronics, or brain-computer interfaces.

Energy and Sustainability: We seek exceptional candidates in the area of synthesis and processing of novel semiconductors, energy-efficient circuits and systems, and their novel applications. Applications can include but not limited to conventional digital computing, photonics and optoelectronics, power electronics and passives, extreme environment electronics and sensing, as well as novel computing paradigms such as analog and neuromorphic computing.

IDS: We seek exceptional candidates in machine learning and data science, with a focus on biomedical imaging, computer vision, signal processing, information theory, and learning for optimization, controls and robotics.

Candidates interested in Innovation in Data Science Engineering and Science (IDEAS) are encouraged to also apply to the school-wide search and designate the ESE department as their preferred department.

We are especially interested in candidates with a diversity of experiences and perspectives. Penn Engineering strongly supports dual career couples, and we welcome and encourage inquiries about dual career assistance (for academic and non-academic opportunities) at an early stage of the recruitment process.

Interested persons should submit an online application and include curriculum vitae, research, teaching, and diversity statements, and at least three confidential letters of recommendation.

Review of applications will begin on December 1, 2024.
