Job Summary:

The Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine has a full-time faculty position (1.0 FTE) available at the rank of Instructor for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA). Under the direction of the full-time faculty, this position provides inpatient and outpatient medical care services at the Children's Hospital Colorado and its affiliates.

The candidate will be expected to provide independent clinical services for the wound care clinic, the hand clinic and general plastics clinic as well as first assist in hand and plastic surgeries. The work schedule may vary but will primarily be Monday-Friday during normal business hours. Some flexibility may be required. This position will work predominantly at the Children's Hospital Colorado in Aurora but may be required to work at multiple CHCO locations including Main, North, and South.

Example of Duties:
  • Provide independent wound services for all outpatient wound care. This will include wound debridement, wound VAC applications, knowledge of wound care products, and outpatient wound consultations in the ED and clinic areas.
  • Support for pediatric congenital hand program, outpatient hand clinic, and OR first assist
  • Management of in-patient pediatric plastic surgery patients, to include daily rounds, writing of orders, patient assessment, patient education, and discharge.
  • General pediatric plastic surgery ED consults, OR first assist, post-operative visits, follow-up appointments, new patient exams, and appropriate scope procedures (excisions, injections, laser treatment, etc.).
  • Triage, manage, and coordinate care of patients with urgent or emergent complaints in conjunction with the primary physician.
  • Triage patient telephone calls and e-mails and provide consultation.
  • Provide monitoring and continuity of care for patients between physician visits.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities; assist in maintaining compliance with Joint Commission accreditation and other internal and external regulatory standards.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Master's Degree – Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
  • Certification from the appropriate professional society (NCCPA, AANP)
  • Colorado medical license will be required prior to start date
  • Must be eligible for certification with independent prescriptive authority.
  • Must have or able to obtain Wound, Ostomy, and Continence certification within six months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least 1 year of surgical advanced practice experience
  • Current Wound, Ostomy, and Continence certification with prior experience
  • Previous experience in pediatric plastic surgery
  • Previous experience in hand surgery
  • Previous experience working in an academic hospital

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$108,000 to $128,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
