Posting Context Statement:
Under the general direction of the Deputy Director of Parking and Transportation Services, the Senior Parking Attendant works closely with other classified and temporary help in providing quality service pertaining to all aspects of field duties within Parking and Transportation Services. This is an essential position that may be called upon in the event of an emergency and/or university closure.

During the academic year this position works 4AM to 1PM. During the summer months this position works either 6:00 am to 3:00 pm or 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Position Overview:
The Senior Parking Attendant will act as field lead.

Duties include:
  • Enforce parking regulations
  • Assisting in traffic and parking utilization surveys
  • Coordinating signage and event layout
  • Assisting with the units billing
  • Maintain equipment
  • Perform parking lot repairs and maintenance
  • Training and task assignment for Parking Attendants

Required Experience:
One year of work experience providing the following:
  • Customer service in-person and via the phone
  • Using computer software and applications for word processing, email and internet research


Required Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Required Other:
  • CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
  • Flagging certification or ability to obtain within 1 year of employment
  • A passenger endorsed Commercial Drivers License (CDL) within 6 months of employment
  • Successful candidates will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing as part of their employment with the University of Idaho
  • Must have valid drivers license and ability to meet U of I driving requirements
  • Ability to work extended hours with variable schedules including nights, weekends and holidays; rotating shift work

Additional Preferred:
Ability to:
  • Operate different types of vehicles
  • Maintain simple records and prepare reports
  • Learn and apply rules, regulations and guidelines
  • Understand and effectively carry out instructions
  • Observe and practice appropriate security and safety precautions
  • Lead temporary help during events and daily field operations
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships


  • Knowledge of or experience working in traffic control
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Experience in asphalt repair and maintenance operations
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with angry and/or confrontational individuals; diffuse confrontational customers
  • Flexibility and the ability to learn new tasks and willingness to contribute to a team effort
  • Familiarity with University parking and policies

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
Ability to:
  • Lift, carry and/or otherwise move up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
  • Move about and between locations for extended periods of time up to a full day of work
  • Work in inclement weather
