Position Summary:
The Associate Vice President – Academic Affairs (AVPAA) serves as a key strategic partner to the provost, providing administrative oversight of the Academic Affairs division. This role is essential in planning, implementing, and monitoring outcomes assessment strategies aligned with the college's student learning outcomes (SLO) standards, while ensuring compliance with accreditation requirements. The AVPAA collaborates across college offices on outcomes assessment and accreditation and provides leadership in exploring innovative technologies to support academic initiatives. The AVPAA will supervise directors in instructional design, and registrar, applying strong leadership and management
skills to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. The AVPAA will also streamline academic operations, improving time and resource management. This individual, as a member of the College's executive committee with be involved with the development, implementation and evaluation of the goals and policies the College maintains to support its mission.
Supervision Exercised:
This position reports to the Provost & Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs. This position supervises the Registrar and the Director of Instructional Design.
Example of Job Duties:

Supervise Strategic Leadership in Outcomes Assessment:
- Lead the planning and implementation of outcomes assessment activities across Academic Affairs to ensure all courses meet the college's SLO standards.
- Collaborate with other college offices to develop assessment activities that align with institutional goals and ensure inclusion in accreditation reports.
- Ensure assessment processes are well-documented and integrated into the continuous improvement cycle within Academic Affairs.
Accreditation and Compliance:
- Help coordinate and write reports for accreditation and compliance, including NECHE (New England Commission of Higher Education) and NC-SARA (National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements).
- Maintain regular communication with all college members on accreditation-related issues, ensuring that all information required by accreditors is gathered, organized, and submitted in a timely manner.
- Organize and lead committees to compile necessary accreditation materials, with a focus on consistency, accuracy, and compliance.
- Serve as a key contributor to the development and submission of NECHE reports, working closely with other stakeholders in the college.
Collaboration with Faculty and Governance Bodies:
- Work in collaboration with faculty governance bodies and departments within Academic Affairs to ensure consistency in course policies, procedures, and curriculum changes.
- Recommend updates to academic policies and procedures, ensuring that changes are well-documented, communicated, and aligned with institutional goals and literature.
- Oversee the implementation of policy and curriculum changes, ensuring consistency across departments and proper documentation in college materials.
Program Oversight and Quality Assurance:
- Collaborate with Program Directors to develop and implement strategic course scheduling, new and redesigned academic programs, and ensure quality assurance standards for instructors.
- Monitor the effectiveness of programs, ensuring they meet institutional standards and accreditation requirements.
Project Research, Planning, and Implementation for Technology:
- Conduct research, planning, and implementation of technology initiatives under the purview of the Provost's office, with an emphasis on Artificial Intelligence solutions.
- Collaborate with the Chief Information Officer to assess, adopt, and integrate AI-driven technologies that enhance educational outcomes and operational efficiency.
- Ensure technology projects align with academic priorities, institutional goals, and compliance standards.
Provide Leadership and Oversight:
- Ensure Instructional Design Support: Guide the instructional design director in adopting innovative course development strategies, leveraging technology to enhance student learning experiences, and ensuring accessibility and compliance with online learning standards.
- Registrar's Office Coordination: Oversee the Registrar to ensure efficient academic recordkeeping, course scheduling, and student registration processes that support timely degree completion.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Ensure that all curricular and policy changes are consistent with the college's official documents and literature.
- Organize and maintain documentation of assessment, accreditation, and compliance activities to ensure transparency and accountability.
Minimum Qualifications:
Incumbents must possess proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and students. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.) Incumbents are required to have demonstrated advanced knowledge and abilities in the following:
- Minimum of 10 years' experience in higher education administration, particularly in academic outcomes assessment, accreditation, and compliance.
- A master's degree in a relevant field.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-departmental initiatives and work collaboratively with faculty and staff.
- Leadership experience of regional and programmatic accreditation standards
Preferred Qualifications:
- A doctoral degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated success in securing funding for student success programs through grant writing.
Skills and Competencies:
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders.
- Knowledge of higher education trends and best practices in outcomes assessment and accreditation, and educational technology.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Work Environment:
This position is based in a higher education setting, requiring collaboration with faculty, staff, and governance bodies to ensure compliance with academic and accreditation standards. Occasional travel may be required for accreditation and assessment-related activities.
Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $140,721 - $211,082 and while experience and qualifications are considered, candidates will start at the minimum of the salary range. This position also comes with excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits. The salary will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications such as education and job-related experience, and internal equity.
