University Communications (UComm) advances the mission of the university, as well as its reputation and identity as a leading academic and urban research institution. UComm leverages strategic communications planning, media relations, branding, marketing, executive communications, and a wide range of digital media, to tell the stories of the university and its people in support of the university's strategic goals and mission to serve students. Using a federated model, college communicators are a vital part of the UComm team to align all efforts across the university. This is accomplished through collaboration and use of the skills and talents of the CAM program director and the University Communications team to achieve objectives. The program director is the liaison to University Communications, the central communications for the university. Working together they create an ecosystem where communications and marketing efforts are aligned and support our students.

The position is responsible for working with members of the College of Arts and Media (CAM) leadership team to creatively showcase the college's mission, vision, and student, faculty and alumni work, and to advance the college's reputation locally and nationally. This includes managing the strategic position of the school by providing direction and implementation of marketing campaigns with a strong focus on recruitment, coordinating marketing and communication for special events, guiding market analysis, and actively developing and implementing communication plans and strategies. This position is responsible for the marketing and communication strategies, conceptualization, design, and production/oversight of marketing and communication materials shared through the CAM website, social media, internal communications, external media, and print collateral for the College and its programs. This position will develop communication and marketing plans, align strategies, produce, edit, and publish a wide variety of content, and requires excellent writing and editing skills.

The program director is a creative and experienced leader with a record of accomplishment in making data-driven decisions based in relevant research and metrics. The full-time position develops, manages, and implements marketing and communication strategies that support CAM and university goals. This role will work with CAM leadership, university colleagues, and external partners to position CAM as leader within Denver and with larger national audiences.

The person in this position will work closely with the CAM leadership team including the Dean, Associate Deans and others. The incumbent will work directly with CAM staff members to create marketing and communications tools that support recruitment, student services, events, academic and professional program management, alumni relations, finance, and more. The individual will also work closely with University Communications staff as well as other communicators as needed across campus.

Program Director of Marketing and Communications

What you will do:

Leadership:

  • Create and implement multi-channel marketing strategy and communications that support the mission, vision, and strategic goals of CAM and CU Denver

  • Supervise and provide leadership for staff at various levels, to include providing feedback, disciplinary actions, mentoring, and performance management.

  • Direct the work of marketing/communications.

  • Work with Events & Recruitment coordinate to ensure alignment of MARCOM in events including gallery openings and special events.

  • Builds and upholds community relationships with key stakeholders, prominent organizations, and creative industry influencers

  • Serve as the school's liaison to, and work collaboratively with other marketing and communication professionals on campus, in the university system and with communications partners across the creative industries.

  • Budget development and approval oversight of marketing budget about $100,000 a year

  • Negotiate terms of independent contractors and work with CAM teams on sponsorship opportunities

Marketing:

  • Plan, research, execute, measure, and adjust programmatic and search digital marketing campaigns and brand awareness campaigns driven by KPIs, conversions, and analytics

  • Oversee and participate in the planning and completion of all print and digital commutations including:

    • website design and content using required CMS platforms

    • writing for web with focus on SEO content

    • creating digital ad, search ad, and print ad copy

    • editorial planning and posting of social media content

    • news stories, success profiles, paid and earned media

    • print and digital recruitment marketing materials

  • Identify and develop content for advertisements and sponsorships promoting the school.
  • Ensure that all publications and produced materials are of the highest quality, conform to university and school branding guidelines, convey a consistent organizational imaging, and are accessible and appropriate for intended audiences.

Communications:

  • Supervise and ensure the development and maintenance of effective contact lists and databases to be used for distributing publications, news, fundraising, and event information.
  • Serve as a strategic partner in facilitating the internal communications of the College of Arts & Media

Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, graphic design, media arts, interactive media, journalism, public relations, communications, public administration, business (with a communication/marketing focus), or a directly related field from an accredited institution.

  • Extensive, diverse, and progressively responsible experience developing, and executing successful strategy, design, marketing, brand management, and/or advertising initiatives.

  • Four years of relevant marketing/communications experience and proven professional experience in the fields of branding, marketing and communications.

  • Successful experience in creating and standardizing metrics and analytics to assist in measuring the costs and impact of key messages, communications strategies, and tactics.

  • Experience working in CMS and CMM platforms.

  • Experience working in data and data dashboard platforms .
  • Three or more years of experience in the areas of web development, digital communication, and/or social media marketing

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Master's degree in marketing, journalism, public relations, communications, business administration or another closely related field.

  • Five years of experience in a progressively responsible communications and/or marketing role, including experience in creating and implementing communications and marketing strategies.

  • Experience working in a communications and marketing role in nonprofit, government and/or higher education.

  • Demonstration of ability to increase enrollment or engagement in academic or volunteer programs evidenced in application materials

  • Minimum of two years of experience using CRM technologies

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to write, edit, proofread, publish, and produce print and web content and communications materials.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

  • Outstanding customer service skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance justice, equity diversity and inclusion.

  • Familiarity with and capacity to employ web content management systems.

  • Professional expertise to innovate, initiate and complete effective and research-based communication, marketing and branding strategies.

  • Ability to use analytics to measure and evaluate marketing and communications strategies.

  • Ability to manage a diverse workload with multiple priorities.

  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and other graphics programs.
  • Ability to maintain a climate that is collegial, treats faculty, staff, and learners fairly and is hospitable to creativity and innovation.

Conditions of Employment
  • This position requires an onsite presence on campus 3 days a week.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $90,071 - $99,552.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
